Item Technology driven high-level synthesis(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2007) Joseph, M.; Bhat Narasimha, N.B.; Chandra Sekaran, K.C.Technology driven High-Level Synthesis make the present High-Level Synthesis knowledgeable of the target Field Programmable Gate Array. All the functions of High-Level Synthesis become aware of target technology since parsing. It makes right inference of hardware, by attaching target technology specific attributes to the parse tree. This right inference will guide to generate optimized hardware. © 2007 IEEE.Item Stability analysis of stratified soil slopes by optimization technique using Janbu's generalized procedure of slices(2008) Arunkumar Bhat, K.; Shivashankar, R.; Yaji, R.K.The networks to facilitate communications have created large number of cuttings and embankments all along the west coast of India which is subjected to high intensity of rainfall. The heavy rainfall has converted the stable slope to unstable slopes over the years. Hence there is a need to study the effect of rainfall and other factors on the stability of slopes. Typical stratified slope is considered for the stability analysis and the general computer program is developed in C language which optimizes the factor of safety. The factor of safety is calculated using Janbu's GPS and Davidon-Fletcher-Powel (DFP) technique is used for optimization. The slope with berm or without berm and with or without tension crack are analyzed for stability. The factor of safety decreases with the increase in unit weight, pore pressure ratio, height of slope and slope angle and improves with shear strength parameters and berm width. The program is flexible in varying the input parameters to suit to the field conditions and their effects are presented in this paper.Item Shape optimization and assessment of wind induced stresses in domes(2009) Babu Narayan, K.S.; Yaragal, S.C.; Tamura, Y.Domes are popularly used for column free areas. They are employed as covers to reservoirs and treatment units and also as containment in nuclear reactors. Inverted domes are popular as foundations. This paper demonstrates the need and scope for optimization of domes by formulating and solving the problem by use of calculus. A simple but elegant method is suggested for determination of wind stresses by statics which compares very well with that obtained by rigorous method.Item Solar PV- diesel hybrid energy system for rural applications(2010) Mandi, R.P.; Yaragatti, U.R.This paper describe sizing of solar PV, DG set and battery bank for different configurations for share of solar power. Different configurations for integration of solar with diesel energy systems are explained in detail. The energy availability and reliability of the integrated energy system are highlighted The economics for implementation of different configurations are dealt with detailed discussion in this paper. ©2010 IEEE.Item Prediction and optimization of dimensional shrinkage variations in injection molded parts using forward and reverse mapping of artificial neural networks(2012) Gowdru Chandrashekarappa, G.C.; Krishna, P.The most significant process parameters affecting dimensional shrinkage in transverse and longitudinal directions of molded parts in Plastic Injection Molding (PIM) process are injection velocity, mold temperature, melt temperature and packing pressure. In the present work, ANN model was developed for forward and reverse mapping prediction. In forward mapping PIM process parameters are expressed as the input parameters to predict dimensional shrinkage, whereas in reverse mapping, attempts were made to predict an appropriate set of process parameters required for arriving at the required dimensional shrinkage. The trained network with one thousand input-output data randomly generated from regression equations reported by earlier researchers resulted in minimum mean squared error. The performance of developed model was compared with experimental values for ten different test cases. The results show that ANN model with both forward and reverse mapping is capable of prediction with an error level of less than ten percent. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications.Item Prediction of surface finish and optimization of machining parameters in turning(2012) Prasad, D.; Krishna, P.; Rao, S.S.Surface roughness plays a crucial role in the functional capacity of machined parts. In this work, experiments were carried out on a conventional lathe for different cutting parameters namely feed, spindle speed, depth of cut and tool nose radius according to Taguchi Design of Experiments. Radial acceleration readings were taken with an accelerometer. Optimum cutting parameters and their level of significance were found using Taguchi analysis (ANOVA). Regression analysis was carried out to identify whether the experimental roughness values have fitness characteristic with the process parameters. Recurrence Plots (RP) were obtained using the sensor signals which determine surface roughness qualitatively and Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA) technique was used to quantify the RP obtained. Surface finish was predicted using a feed forward back propagation neural network with RQA parameters, cutting parameters and acceleration data as inputs to the network. The validity and reliability of the methods were verified experimentally. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications.Item Uniform illumination over a square target-surface using LED arrangements(2012) Punekar, G.S.; Suhas, K.; Yadav, P.S.; Bhattacharya, R.; Shekar, M.This document intends to present a study of configurations for the uniform illumination over a square-target-surface (of task-lighting dimensions) using power LEDs. A particular application of this is the illumination of a carrom board. A lighting scheme involving a distributed arrangement of LEDs that provides a near-uniform illumination level for a given height, is proposed. The optimized parameters for the variables in the arrangement are obtained by the use of MATLAB functions for optimization. The existing lighting system for the illumination of the carrom boards at NITK Surathkal is measured and compared with the proposed arrangement. © 2012 IEEE.Item O3 - A webpage preprocessing tool(SciTePress, 2015) Senthil, K.; Bhat, K.S.; Jamadagni, N.; Sureshan, S.; Prasad, G.One of the prime factors for the success of the internet is determined by the time taken to load a web page. Even a difference of a few hundred milliseconds in the response time will largely affect the number of users of a web page to shift from one to the other. So, in the commercial market, providing quick service to the users is of utmost importance in remaining ahead of competitors. In this paper, we mainly address this issue by applying various optimization techniques at the front-end to improve the user experience by reducing the load time of the web pages. Though the overall optimization is purely web page-dependent, the optimization techniques not only reduce the time taken to load the page, but also reduce the load on the server.Item Influence of welding process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded aluminium matrix composite(Trans Tech Publications Ltd ttp@transtec.ch, 2017) Prabhu B, S.; Shettigar, A.K.; Karthik, K.; Rao, S.S.; Herbert, M.In this study, the effect of process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded aluminium matrix composites(AMC) have been explored. The results indicated that the recrystallized grain size at the bottom of the weld region is smaller than that at the top region due to difference in the heat transfer at the weld region. The joint strength of AMCs depends on proper selection of process parameters like tool rotational speed and welding speed. If process parameter values are beyond the optimal value, the joint strength decreases due to formation of defects. Maximum tensile strength is obtained for rotational speed of 1000 rpm and welding speed of 80mm/min. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.Item A reinforcement learning approach to optimize downloads over mobile networks(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Mohan, J.; Vittal, A.; Chandrasekaran, K.; Krishnamachari, B.Dedicated Short Range Communication is attracting a lot of interest these days due to its utility in vehicular safety applications, intelligent transportation system and infotainment applications. Such vehicular networks are characterized by the highly dynamic changes in topology, no significant power constraints and ephemeral links. Considering an interaction between the client and server nodes that last for a random duration of time, an important question is to maximize the amount of useful content downloaded by the client, either in a single request phase, or iteratively in multiple phases. The aim of this work is to propose and investigate a multiphase request model using Markov Decision Process and compare its efficiency against a single phase version. We show that a multiphase request protocol performs better than single phase protocol. © 2017 IEEE.
