Abstract: Finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the static deflection and free vibration of a curved sandwich beam made of the isotropic stiff layer and viscoelastic core. Beam element having four degrees of freedom (DOF) per node is considered in the study. A displacement model based on linear and cubic polynomial is assumed to arrive at the shape functions which are substituted into strain energy and kinetic energy equation to find out stiffness and mass matrix respectively. Static deflection and free vibration frequency are verified experimentally for cantilever boundary condition. � 2019 Author(s).
