Hervé- and Krebs-Type Magnetic Polyoxometalate Dimers
    (MDPI, 2022) Kondinski, A.; Banerjee, A.; Mal, S.S.
Lacunary polyoxometalates (POMs) are negatively charged metal–oxo clusters, formally obtained from plenary topologies via fragment removal. Owing to the fragment removal, the lacunary POMs archetypes are rich in nucleophilic terminal oxo ligands, making them suitable for post-synthetic coordination with various heterometals. Trilacunary heteropolytungstates (hetero-POTs) based on bowl-shaped {W9O30} framework incorporating a central lone-pair containing {XO3} hetergroup (X = AsIII, SbIII, and BiIII) function as all-inorganic scaffolds that in the presence of d-block metal cations typically construct sandwich-like dimers of Hervé and/or Krebs. Herein we review the preparative approaches, as well as compositional and magnetic versatility of the constructed Hervé- and Krebs-type dimers and discuss prospective uses as POMtronics. © 2022 by the authors.

Studies on nonlinear optical parameters of bis-chalcone derivatives doped polymer
    (Elsevier BV, 2006) Shettigar, S.; Chandrasekharan, K.; Umesh, G.; Sarojini, B.K.; Narayana, B.
Two bis-chalcone derivatives, 1,5-[di(4-methoxyphenyl)]penta-1,4-dien-3-one and 1,5-[di(4-chlorophenyl)]penta-1,4-dien-3-one were synthesized. Their SHG conversion efficiencies are reported to be 6.0 and 5.0 times that of urea and hyper polarizabilities are 9.9×10-30 and 10.2×10-30 esu, respectively. The third-order nonlinear optical properties in PMMA matrix were studied by Z-scan technique using 7 ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The nonlinear refractive index ?, nonlinear absorption coefficient ?, magnitude of effective third order susceptibility ?(3) and the coupling factor ? have been investigated. The values obtained are of the order of 10-14 cm2/W, 1.2 cm/GW, 10-14 esu and 0.2, respectively, which are comparable with the values obtained in stilbazoleum like dyes. The experimental investigation also shows that they are very interesting optical limiting materials and their optical limiting behaviour is mainly due to two photon absorption phenomenon. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Synthesis and nonlinear optical characterization of copolymers containing alternating 3,4-dialkoxythiophene and 1,3,4-oxadiazolydbenzene units
    (2007) Udayakumar, D.; Kiran, A.J.; Vasudeva Adhikari, A.V.; Chandrasekharan, K.; Shashikala, H.D.
We report the synthesis and linear and third-order nonlinear optical (NLP) characterization of two novel copolymers containing alternating 3,4-dialkoxythiophene and 1,4-bis(1,3,4-oxadiazolyl)benzene units. The copolymers were synthesized with a precursor polyhydrazide route. Both copolymers exhibited fluorescence around 430 nm under the irradiation of UV light. The NLO measurements were made with the single-beam Z-scan technique with Nd:YAG nanosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The nonlinear refractive index of the investigated copolymers was negative, and the magnitude was as high as 10 -10 esu. The samples exhibited strong reverse saturation absorption and very good optical limiting properties at the wavelength used. The concentration dependence of third-order NLO parameters was studied. ©2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Supramolecular synthons in noncovalent synthesis of a class of gelators derived from simple organic salts: Instant gelation of organic fluids at room temperature via in situ synthesis of the gelators
    (2009) Das, U.K.; Trivedi, D.R.; Adarsh, N.N.; Dastidar, P.
(Chemical Equation Presented) The supramolecular synthon approach has been employed to synthesize noncovalently a series of low molecular mass organic gelators (LMOGs) derived from benzylammonium salts of variously substituted benzoic acids. The majority of the salts (75%) prepared showed interesting gelation properties. Instant gelation of an organic fluid, namely methyl salicylate, was achieved at room temperature by using most of the gelator salts by in situ synthesis of the gelators. Table top rheology and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the gels. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed the presence of both 1D and 2D supramolecular synthons. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) studies indicated the presence of various crystalline phases in the fibers of the xerogels. By using these data, a structure-property correlation has been attempted and the working hypothesis for designing the gelator has been reinforced. © 2009 American Chemical Society.

Design and synthesis of some new quinoline-3-carbohydrazone derivatives as potential antimycobacterial agents
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2010) Eswaran, S.; Vasudeva Adhikari, A.V.; Pal, N.K.; Chowdhury, I.H.
A series of 26 new quinoline derivatives carrying active pharmacophores has been synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro antituberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (MTB), Mycobacterium smegmatis (MC2), and Mycobacterium fortuitum following the broth micro dilution assay method. Compounds 13e, 13i, 13k, 14a, 14c, 14i, and 14k exhibited significant minimum inhibition concentrations, when compared with first line drugs isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) and could be ideally suited for further modifications to obtain more efficacious compounds in the fight against multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Nonlinear optical studies on new conjugated poly{2,2 l-(3,4- dialkoxythiophene-2,5-diyl) bis[5-(2-thienyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole]}s
    (2010) Hegde, P.K.; Vasudeva Adhikari, A.V.; Manjunatha, M.G.; Suchand Sandeep, C.S.; Philip, R.
Three new donor-acceptor type poly{2,2 1-(3,4-dialkoxythiophene- 2,5-diyl)bis[5-(2-thienyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole]}s (P1, P2, and P3) were synthesized starting from thiodiglycolic acid and diethyl oxalate through multistep reactions. The polymerization was carried out using chemical polymerization technique. The optical and charge-transporting properties of the polymers were investigated by UV-visible, fluorescence emission spectroscopic and cyclic voltammetric studies. The polymers showed bluish-green fluorescence in solutions. The electrochemical band gaps were determined to be 2.03, 2.09, and 2.17 eV for P1, P2, and P3, respectively. The nonlinear optical properties of new polymers were investigated at 532 nm using single beam Z-scan and degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) techniques with nanosecond laser pulses. The polymers exhibited strong optical limiting behavior due to "effective" three-photon absorption. Values of the effective three-photon absorption (3PA) coefficients, thirdorder nonlinear susceptibilities (? (3)), and figures (F) of merit were calculated. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Synthesis and characterization of temperature sensitive P-NIPAM macro/micro hydrogels
    (Elsevier B.V., 2011) JagadeeshBabu, P.E.; Suresh Kumar, R.; Maheswari, B.
A thermo responsive macro porous poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel was synthesized using free radical polymerization. The reaction was optimized by varying the reaction temperature, monomer, cross-linker and initiator based on the strength and swelling characteristics of the hydrogel. The morphology of the macro hydrogel was observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The swelling behavior of the macro hydrogel was performed gravimetrically and found that the gel synthesized at 36 °C had maximum deswelling ratio of 34.5 (-). These optimized values were further used to synthesis micro hydrogels using water-oil (w/o) emulsion technique. The morphology of the micro hydrogels were observed through SEM. Effect of water-oil ratio and stirrer speed on the mean particle size of the micro hydrogels were studied. Micro hydrogels synthesized at 1:1.5. w/o ratio and at 800. rpm had perfect spherical shape and had least particle mean diameter of 0.74 ?m, with SD of 0.5. Dye release kinetics with respect to temperature and time were studied using methylene blue solution. The release kinetic studies of micro hydrogel showed higher sustained release for 56. h compared to the macro hydrogel. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

Synthesis of worm-shaped carbon nanofibers over a sodium chloride support
    (2012) Ravindra, R.; Badekai Ramachandra, B.R.
Worm-shaped carbon nanofibers (WCNFs) were synthesized in bulk by chemical vapour deposition at 680 °C using iron carboxylate as catalyst precursors and sodium chloride as catalyst support. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction method. The purity of the purified products was determined by thermal analysis. TheWCNFyield was 6700% relative to catalyst. The simplicity, environmental friendliness and use of easily available low-cost precursors are the advantage of this synthesis technique. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2012.

Synthesis and characterization of thiophene and fluorene based donor-acceptor conjugated polymer containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole units for light-emitting diodes
    (2012) Murali, M.G.; Naveen, P.; Udayakumar, U.; Yadav, V.; Srivastava, R.
A new donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymer (PDTOF) containing 3,4-didodecyloxythiophene, fluorene and 1,3,4-oxadiazole units is synthesized by using Wittig reaction methodology. The synthesized polymer is characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, GPC, and elemental analysis. The optical energy band gap of the polymer is found to be 2.42 eV as calculated from the onset absorption edge. The electrochemical studies of PDTOF reveal that, the HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the polymer are -5.45 eV and -3.58 eV, respectively. The polymer is thermally stable up to 320 °C. Polymer light-emitting diode devices are fabricated with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT: PSS/PDTOF/Al using PDTOF as the emissive layer. The electroluminescence (EL) spectrum of the device showed green emission with CIE coordinate values (0.34, 0.47). By current density-voltage characteristics, threshold voltage of the PLED device is found to be 6.5 V. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
