Item Novel chromeno [2,3-b]-pyrimidine derivatives as potential anti-microbial agents(2010) Sankappa Rai, U.; Isloor, A.M.; Shetty, P.; Vijesh, A.M.; Prabhu, N.; Isloor, S.; Thiageeswaran, M.; Fun, H.-K.An efficient, microwave irradiated synthesis of novel chromeno[2,3-b]-pyrimidine derivatives was carried out. 2-Amino-3,4-dihydro-2H-chromene-3-carbonitrile was converted into imine using N,N-Dimethylacetaldehyde dimethylacetal to give the core intermediate, which was used for the preparation of chromenopyrimidine library, using acetic acid and different amine in microwave irradiation for 5 min. Structures of newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral studies. Compound 6g was characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. All the compounds were also screened for their anti-microbial activity. Few of the compounds are found to be potential antimicrobials. © 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS. The recent expansion of antimicrobial drug research has occurred because there is a critical need for new antimicrobial agents to treat these life threatening invasive infections. In the present study three series of new substituted pyrazolone derivatives (5a-f, 6a-f and 8a,b) were synthesized by the Knoevenagel condensation reaction of pyrazolones (3a,b) with various substituted carbaldehydes (4a-f, 7). These newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, mass spectra and also by C, H, N analyses. New compounds were screened for their antimicrobial studies against S. aureus, B. subtilis, E. coli and P. aeruginosa. The results revealed that compounds 5c and 6c having 2,5-dichlorothiophene substituent showed significant antibacterial activity against all tested microorganisms as compared to the standard drug Ceftriaxone.Item Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity of novel ethyl 1-(N-substituted)-5-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate derivatives(2012) Chandrakantha, B.; Isloor, A.M.; Shetty, P.; Isloor, S.; Malladi, S.; Fun, H.-K.In the present study, a novel series of Pyrazole derivatives (3a-m) were synthesized by condensing ethyl-3-(dimethylamino)-2-(phenylcarbonyl)prop-2- enoate with different aromatic and aliphatic hydrazines. These newly synthesized compounds were characterized by NMR, mass spectral, IR spectral studies as well as by C, H, and N analyses. All the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Among the screened samples, 3c, 3f, 3k, and 3l have showed excellent antibacterial activity against all the tested bacterial strains as compared to the standard drug Ceftriaxone. Few of the compounds were found to be biologically potent. Molecular structure of compound 3i was confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2011.Item Studies on copper coated polysulfone/modified poly isobutylene alt-maleic anhydride blend membrane and its antibiofouling property(2013) Isloor, A.M.; Ganesh, B.M.; Isloor, S.; A.F., A.F.; Nagaraj, H.S.; Pattabi, M.As nanofiltration is gaining more and more importance in the field of desalination, one has to address the many obstacles in order to achieve effective/efficient filtration. One such issue is biofouling and microbial attack to the membrane. This paper describes about the study on copper coating onto the membrane surface as biofouling protective layer. This is an attempt to come up with a new approach for desalination and an antimicrobial membrane. The work indicates that, the copper coated membrane can resist the possible microbial attack to some extent while maintaining good salt rejection and appreciable flux. SEM and EDX studies had shown the distribution of copper on the membrane surface. The copper coated membrane had shown the maximum salt rejection of about 96% for 3500ppm NaCl solution and also it had shown the pure water flux of 36Lm-2h-1. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.Item Synthesis and antimicrobial activities of some novel 1,2,4-triazole derivatives(2013) Mange, Y.J.; Isloor, A.M.; Malladi, S.; Isloor, S.; Fun, H.-K.In the present investigation, a series of new Schiff bases 4a-f were synthesized by the condensation of N-[(4-amino-5-sulfanyl-4. H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl]-4-substituted-benzamides 3a-b with various substituted aromatic aldehydes in ethanol-dioxane mixture using catalytic amount of sulfuric acid. The starting materials 3a-b were in turn synthesized by the fusion of benzoyl glycine/substituted benzoylglycine with thiocarbohydrazide. Newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, mass spectra and elemental analyses. All the compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity using the Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) method by serial dilution technique. Few of the compounds were found to be biologically active. © 2011.Item Synthesis, characterization and antibacterial activity of some new pyrazole based Schiff bases(2013) Malladi, S.; Isloor, A.M.; Isloor, S.; Akhila, D.S.; Fun, H.-K.In the present study a series of new Schiff bases were synthesized. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, mass spectral and elemental analyses. Newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) activity. The results revealed that, compounds 3f and 3c have exhibited significant biological activity against the tested microorganisms. © 2011.
