Item Effect of polymer host on third order nonlinear optical properties of newly synthesized organic liquid crystal(2007) Shettigar, S.; Umesh, G.; Poornesh, P.; Murthy, Y.L.N.We report the investigation of third order optical nonlinearity of 2,4,6-tri-(p-hyptoyoxylphenyl) pyrilium tetraborate doped PMMA using nanosecond laser pulses at 532nm wavelength by employing Z-Scan technique. To see the effect of polymer host, the results have been compared with the pure dopant. The material shows a large negative nonlinearity with real and imaginary parts of X(3) are - 3.31×10-14esu and 0.73×10 -14esu respectively. Excited state absorption cross-section is found to be 3.41×10-48 cm4.s/photon in PMMA host. The magnitude of third order nonlinear parameters increases when the compound is doped into PMMA matrix because of change in the conformation of chain geometry as a result of charge transfer processes. The values are comparable with a best known nonlinear liquid crystal molecule namely, 4-cyano-4'-n-pentylbiphenyl in the nematic phase. Hence, these molecules can be suitably used as nonlinear optical materials in PMMA matrix for device applications. © 2007 IEEE.Item Third-order nonlinear optical properties and optical switching of palladium (I) complex(2011) Manjunatha, K.B.; Dileep, R.; Shelar, M.S.; Umesh, G.; Satyanarayan, M.N.; Badekai Ramachandra, B.R.We report the third-order nonlinear optical, optical power limiting and optical switching study of palladium-N-(2-pyridyl)-N′- (5-amino salicylidene) hydrazine triphenylphosphine, using Z-scan technique and pump-probe technique. The measured nonlinear refractive index is n 2=-6.022×10-9esu. The complex exhibits the reverse saturable absorption (RSA), the nonlinear absorption coefficient of β=10.748×10-9m/W. The good optical power limiting and optical switching behavior were observed in this complex. These suggest that this complex is a potential molecule for photonic applications. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.Item Linear and NLO properties of an organic single crystal(2012) Rajesh Kumara, P.C.; Ravindrachary, V.; Janardhana, K.; Poojary, B.; Manjunath, K.B.; Umesh, G.Organic compound of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(2-methoxy 5-bromophenyl)prop-2- en-1-one [MMBPP] with molecular formula C16H11BrO 3 was synthesized using Schmidt condensation method. A FT-IR spectrum was recorded to identify the various functional groups present in the compound. The single crystals were grown using slow evaporation solution growth technique. The high quality transparent crystals up to a size 10×7×5 mm3 are obtained with in fifteen days. UV-Visible spectrum reveals that the crystal is transparent in the entire visible region. The single crystal XRD study shows that the compound crystallizes in orthorhombic crystal system with a space group P212121 and the observed cell parameters are a =7.6095(13) Å, b =13.049(2) Å, c = 15.525(3) Å, Volume 1541.6(5) Å3. The third order Nonlinearity was confirmed by Z-scan technique and non-linear parameters were determined. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
