An Efficient Bandwidth Management algorithm for WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) wireless network: EBM allocation algorithm
    (2012) Gupta, A.; Chandavarkar, B.R.
IEEE 802.16 WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) consists of five service classes with different priorities. The priority of real time traffic is higher than that of non-real time traffic. Since bandwidth is limited, it must be allocated in advance to guarantee the throughput of real time traffic in WiMAX network. But WiMAX standard does not provide any algorithm for dynamic allocation of bandwidth to these services. In this paper, a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for WiMAX called Efficient Bandwidth Management (EBM) is proposed. In EBM the bandwidth will be increased in the upcoming frames when the allocated bandwidth is not sufficient to transfer the data. On the other side if the allocated bandwidth is more, then the bandwidth will be decreased in the upcoming frames so that the other services can use this excess bandwidth. This bandwidth increase or decrease is proportional to the remaining data in the queue. EBM increase the throughput of real time traffic as the bandwidth is handled efficiently. The proposed algorithm is implemented in ns-2 and results are compared with traditional IEEE 802.16 WiMAX. The simulation results show that EBM algorithm gives better result for real-time traffic. © 2012 IEEE.

IEEE 802.16-2004(WiMAX) protocol for grid control center and aggregator communication in V2G for smart grid application
    (IEEE Computer Society help@computer.org, 2013) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, U.R.
The Vehicle to grid (V2G) has become a reality with the developments in power grid and electrical vehicle technology. The V2G acts as a source and can be connected to the grid for shaving peak. The information and communication technology (ICT) will play a key role in V2G communications in smart grid environment. The aggregator acts as an interface between the grid control center and electrical vehicles. The communication between grid control center and aggregator is crucial and it is the responsibility of the aggregator to mobilize the electrical vehicles and facilitate the EV's to get connected to the grid by providing them the required parking slot for the EV's based on the state of the battery. In this paper we have analyzed the performance of IEEE 802.16-2004 for grid control center and aggregator communication. The IEEE 802.16-2004 physical layer modeling is performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. © 2013 IEEE.

Performance investigation of mobile WiMAX protocol for aggregator and electrical vehicle communication in Vehicle-to-Grid(V2G)
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.
With the developments in smart power grid and electrical vehicle technology the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) has become reality. The V2G plays a prominent role in meeting the load demands either peak shaving or valley filling in power management. The aggregator acts as an interface between the power grid and electrical vehicles and communication between them plays a key role. The mobile WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) 802.16e is proposed as a communication protocol for aggregator and electrical vehicle communication. The path loss models are compared and simulation of WiMAX 802.16e physical layer is carried out using MATLAB and its performance is investigated. © 2014 IEEE.
