Item Energy sector reforms in India - a review(2008) Mangalpady, M.; Raj, M.G.Indian economy has been growing at a rate of 6-8 % annually during the 10th plan period (2002-07), which requires growth of basic infrastructural facilities at a still higher rate. Power sector is one of the major components of infrastructure development, which requires a growth rate of 9-10 % during the 11th and 12th plan periods (2007-2016). This requires huge amount of investments and restructuring of power sector, for which Government cannot fund the entire amount independently. Hence, private participation is necessary either as an independent venture or through public-private partnership (PPP). Electricity Act 2003 is a step in the direction of reforms by creating an environment for private participation in the generation, transmission and distribution of power in the country. The main aim of this Act is to implement proper steps for efficient and optimum use of energy resources available in India and to supply quality power at good reliability and optimum cost to the Indian consumers. However, one of the major constraints faced by the power sector is the lack of adequate R&D support. This paper attempts to throw a light on present status of Indian power sector with respect to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.Item Secure transmission of Hyperspectral Images(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020) Srujana, O.S.; Mhala, N.C.; Pais, A.R.Hyperspectral Images (HSIs) are images that are captured across the electromagnetic spectrum. Hyperspectral images are represented using a three-dimensional (x,y,λ) data cube where dimension x and y represent the spatial dimension of a scene, and λ represents the spectral dimension of a scene. These images contain abundant information that has to be transmitted securely among the users for further processing. Visual Secret Sharing (VSS) is a modern cryptographic method used to send the visual data securely among n users. VSS scheme generates multiple shares of the secret image, and to recover secret image, these all shares need to be stacked together. In this paper, we propose a scheme for the secure transmission of hyperspectral images using VSS. We also introduce a band selection technique as a pre-processing step to reduce the redundancy and size of the image cube. The proposed scheme uses the super-resolution concept to increase the contrast of the resultant image, obtained from the VSS. We have performed the visual quality assessment of the reconstructed image using quantitative measurement parameters and we have compared the results with the existing VSS based Randomised VSS (RVSS) scheme. The experimental results showed that our proposed scheme achieves better reconstruction quality than the RVSS scheme and reconstructs HSI with a similarity of almost 76-95%. © 2020 IEEE.Item Map and Trie based Compression Algorithm for Data Transmission(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020) Ghuge, S.In-text compression algorithms, a set of symbols as alphabets are defined. These alphabets are the basic building blocks of the language. Traditionally 8-bit ASCII characters are chosen as alphabets. In this paper, an approach that chooses larger symbols as alphabets is proposed. For example, in the case of the English language, a set of words and special characters are chosen as alphabets. In the case of HTML documents, HTML tags are included along with alphabets from the English language described before. Better compression results can be achieved since words have larger byte size than individual ASCII characters but still get mapped to similar-sized encodings. Compressing the data to be transmitted across networks implies less usage of network bandwidth, faster transmission of data, sending several data files over a single transfer and faster reading and writing of data. Thus, the transmission of a compressed file is cost-effective and also saves time in communication. The results prove that the proposed approach gives better file size compression concerning the compression ratio when compared with state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2020 IEEE.
