The design of a machine foundation must take into account the vibration caused by the dynamic load to arrive at an economically satisfactory solution. Machine foundation design principles are different from that of conventional foundation. In a machine foundation, the vibrations are set in and are influenced by the inertia forces of the machine-foundation-soil system. In this paper, an attempt has been made to present a review of the state of the art on machine foundations. The emphasis has been given to the Indian contribution to the state of the art. Subjects covered include dynamic soil parameters, shallow foundations, numerical models, embedded footings, dynamic response prediction, and others.Machine foundation - a state of the artArticle
