The paper addresses the problem of illumination from the end-user point of view in the sense that, illuminance or lux output is measured rather than considering the efficacy of the lamp. It is shown that for illumining a planar surface (a typical, representative of task lighting), performance of LED's as sources are far superior to that of a commercial CFL of similar wattage. An arrangement of 3 LED's of 1 W is compared with a 5 W CFL. Also results for illuminance of 3 LED's placed in different configurations are discussed and optimal arrangement is arrived at.LEDs: A study from illuminance perspectiveArticle
