The effect of the inhibitor concentration, temperature and concentration of the acid mixture media on the inhibitor action was also studied. It was observed that the anti-corrosion efficiency increases with an increase in the inhibitor concentration, but decreases with an increase in temperature. Thermodynamic parameters for the dissolution process were determined. The adsorption of the pyrimidine derivative on the mild steel surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. © 2017, Allerton Press, Inc.Aromatic compoundsCarbon steelCorrosionElectrochemical impedance spectroscopyExtrapolationScanning electron microscopySpectroscopySteelAc impedance spectroscopyDissolution processHydrochloric acid solutionInhibitor concentrationLangmuir adsorption isothermsPyrimidine derivativesTafel extrapolationsThermodynamic parameterCorrosion inhibitorsInhibition effect of a new pyrimidine derivative on the corrosion of mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution
