High level penetration of Distribution Generation causes several impacts on distribution system. One such impact is distribution feeder protection. Modeling of distribution feeder protective devices like reclosers and sectionalizers will help in thorough understanding of the dynamic behavior of the protective system with DG. This paper discusses the recloser and sectionalizer units modeled using PSCAD /EMTDC . PSCAD / EMTDC is a powerful simulation software for analyzing power system transients. Hence the built model will aid in investigating the distribution system protection practices. The efficacy of the models is illustrated by deploying them to protect a sample distribution system and the simulation results are presented. 2013 IEEE.en_US
