Design Optimization and Implementation of an Automated Storage and Retrieval System

Abstract

This research article suggests a system for automated storage and retrieval. The AS/RS is an achanced material handling equipment that utilizes the concept of high density material storage with an automatically controlled stacker for material handling. Designing an affordable Automated Storage and Retrieval System, which is utilized extensively in the manufacturing assembly production process and movement of the component, is a challenge for the majority of companies. The selection of storage system mainly depends on physical dimensions, required space and storage volume capacity. This paper aims to develop a customized AS/RS system that is low cost and thus reduces worker fatigue caused by heavy lifting. In addition, to create a secure system to prevent unauthorized access by personnel to the racks.
