dc.description.abstractIn this paper, a novel single-pulse operated SRM drive with integrated on-board charging capability is proposed. The proposed drive is designed for three modes of operation: motoring (driving), regenerative braking, and grid-to-vehicle (G2V) charging. For motoring and regenerative braking mode, single-pulse control (SPC) is utilized to reduce the switching frequency to fundamental value giving the advantage of re-duced switching losses and core losses. To reduce the torque ripple and improve the efficiency of the drive, modifications in the conventional SPC are incorporated and presented. In the proposed SRM drive, the Cuk converter is utilized as a front-end converter to provide a higher demagnetization voltage, eliminating negative torque production and hence improving the torque-ampere ratio. Furthermore, the bidirectional Cuk converter is utilized to provide variable magnetization voltage for speed control and to achieve power factor correction (PFC) operation during charging mode (G2V mode). As the proposed SRM drive supports integrated on-board charger functionality, it reduces the cost and improves the overall power density of the EV. Detailed analysis and MATLAB simulation results are presented to validate the efficacy of the proposed integrated SRM drive and control scheme. © 2022 IEEE.
