Printex-U soot oxidation kinetic behaviour over Alumina and Quartz

| dc.description.abstract | Printex-U carbon (Pure Soot, S<inf>0</inf>) on alumina (S<inf>A</inf>) and quartz (S<inf>Q</inf>) powder were considered to understand the behaviour of oxidation reaction and kinetic analysis. A similar model of the single-step reaction was followed by the Soot (S<inf>0</inf>) and S<inf>A</inf> sample, while S<inf>Q</inf> followed a complex mechanism of multiple-step reactions. From the experimental and theoretical calculations, it was observed that there was a slight decrease in the T<inf>50</inf> temperature for S<inf>A</inf>, which also had the lowest E<inf>a</inf>, but there was an increase in T<inf>50</inf> and E<inf>a</inf> for S<inf>Q</inf> compared to the S<inf>0</inf> sample. From the present study, it can be understood that the alumina enhanced the catalytic activity when compared to pure soot alone, whereas quartz inhibited the activity. The T<inf>50</inf> temperature, E<inf>a</inf>, and A calculated were obtained in S<inf>A</inf> < S<inf>0</inf> < S<inf>Q</inf>. The soot properties and their kinetics will further help to design catalyzed diesel particulate filters. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd | |
