Abstract

This paper introduces a novel high voltage gain DC-DC converter that operates without a transformer, relying on switched-inductor. The proposed bi-directional converter achieves a notable increase in voltage gain and exhibits enhanced versatility by supporting both buck and boost execution in both power flow directions. This is achieved while minimizing stress on the components. The converter maintains a continuous input current and offers a bipolar output, making it well-suited for interfacing sustainable energy sources (SES) with a Bipolar DC microgrid (BPDCMG). Moreover, owing to its bidirectional feature, the proposed converter is adept at interfacing energy storage components (ESC) like batteries or ultracapacitors with the NPC inverter in an EV drive train. The paper illustrates the operating principles and steady-state analysis of the proposed converter. It further explores dynamic modelling and controller design to ensure regulation of source current and load voltage. Simulation results are presented to substantiate the efficacy of the introduced converter. © 2023 IEEE.
