This study evaluates the efficacy of substitute selection at ABC Automobile Company in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, using a realistic fuzzy multi-criteria method. While management provided quantitative data, employees provided qualitative data. Fuzzy TOPSIS and the TOPSIS technique were used to examine subjective assessments of both qualitative and quantitative data in order to calculate the cost-effectiveness of sustainable supplier selection. Performance evaluation systems’ subjectivity and imprecision are represented by fuzzy numbers that are derived from linguistic notions. Fuzzy MA models are widely used to ascertain the degree of likelihood of each characteristic and sub-attribute, avoiding complex and inaccurate comparisons of fuzzy values. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
