Present work mainly focuses on the prediction of cutting tool tip temperature rise (T) while doing end milling process on BS L168 alloy with progressive feed and constant feed types of machining. Two types of tungsten carbide solid end mills have been used for this study: coated (TiAlN) and uncoated. The coating on the cutting tool is made with PVD technique and had a thickness of 2.5μm to 3μm. Experimental work was done based on Taguchi’s L<inf>27</inf> Orthogonal Array and experimental results of output response are analyzed by Response surface methodology (RSM). Predicted values obtained by means of developed regression models are in close agreement with the actual experimental values. ANOVA has been used to check the adequacy of developed model and to find the influence of individual cutting parameters on performance characteristic. Main effect plots, Surface plots, Correlation plots and Model fitness check plots have been established for both the types of machining. Depth of cut (DOC) is the cutting parameter showing more influence on the output response followed by feed rate, and cutting speed is showing least effect over the response. Progressive feed machining (PFM) had yielded comparatively lower values of temperature rise than the constant feed machining (CFM) with both coated and uncoated cutting tools. © 2023 Editura Politechnica.
