Aqueous corrosion behaviour of ductile iron and ductile iron containing 1 wt. pct. chromium
    (1997) Surendranathan A.O.; Hebbar, K.R.; Sudhaker Nayak, H.V.
Ductile irons with graphite in spheroidal form enjoy the processing characteristics of grey iron and mechanical properties of steel. This paper describes the corrosion behaviour of ductile iron containing 1 wt. % chromium in sea water, dilute sulphuric acid and dilute sodium hydroxide solutions and compares with that of unalloyed ductile iron. Study is made in as-cast, annealed and cold worked (upto 28% reduction in thickness) conditions at three different temperatures. Since the alloying addition brings changes in the proportion of phases, the corrosion behaviour of the two materials studied were different, though alloying addition is small, indicating corrosion behaviour to be structure sensitive.

Pipelined Parallel Processor to implement MD4 Message digest algorithm on Xilinx FPGA
    (1998) David S.
The paper presents a pipelined parallel processor architecture design to implement the MD4 message digest algorithm which computes the message digest or the fingerprint of 128 bit fixed length, for any arbitrary length of input message. The processor implements the arithmetic, logic and circular shift operations by a pipelined parallel process. The architecture is designed to suit the design flexibility of the Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) The processor reads the message from an external RAM, 16-bit at a time and internal operations are performed with 32-bit data. The major advantage of the design is increased speed of computation and minimum hardware. The processor computes the digest with a speed approximately three times faster than the software version implemented in DSP processors.

Heat transfer during quenching and assessment of quench severity-A review
    (2009) Narayan Prabhu K.; Fernandes P.
In the heat treatment of steel, quenching is done to prevent ferrite or pearlite formation and allows formation of bainite and martensite. For a particular grade of steel, the effectiveness of quenching depends on the cooling characteristics of the quenching medium. The cooling rate is not a constant throughout the quenching process; instead it varies depending upon the various stages that occur during the quenching process. Knowledge of heat transfer during various stages of quenching and kinetics of wetting of the quench medium is fundamental to the understanding of the relationship between material, quench medium, microstructure, and properties. In this paper the characteristics of various quench media, the effect of process parameters on quenching, mechanisms of thermal transport, methods of assessing severity of quenching, and techniques of estimation of heat transfer coefficients are reviewed. An attempt is also made to highlight the importance of wetting kinetics of liquid media on quenching. Copyright © 2009 by ASTM International.

Integrated adaptive reach setting of distance relaying scheme in series compensated lines
    (2010) Srivani S.G.; PandurangaVittal K.
The protection of series compensated lines is considered to be one of the most difficult tasks. The paper reviews the series compensated line protection challenges initially and presents state of art solution to improve the distance relay performance. The work describes the development and evaluation of an integrated adaptive distance protection scheme. Development of the adaptive scheme is in the specific area of incorporating the adaptive feature like adaptive reach setting of the relay as the compensation level changes in the series compensated lines, for optimum dependability and security of the protection system. The relay adapts its characteristics according to the informations received from the communication unit. Upon extensive testing on different data set of fault cases with fault resistance and varying percentage compensation level and fault location, performance of the developed method ensures that the proposed scheme overcomes the overreach/underreach problem of the distance relay in series compensated lines and is found to be quite promising.
