Effect of Rolling Reduction on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties Cu-3%Ti Alloy
    (Pleiades journals, 2019) Singh, P.; Ramesh, S.; Anne, G.; Shivananda Nayaka, H.
Cu-3%Ti alloy is cold rolled with different reduction ratios and the microstructures and mechanical properties are compared with that of as-cast Cu-3%Ti alloy. Microstructure was analyzed using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Optical microscopy revealed significant grain refinement that occurred during the rolling process. Tensile test results indicate that the UTS is increased by a significant amount up to 80% rolling reduction. A significant amount of tensile strength increased up to 812 MPa is about 1.69 times that of the cast Cu-3%Ti alloy. Hardness of the rolled Cu-3%Ti increased as % reduction increased. Dimples were revealed on the fracture surface of the rolled Cu-3%Ti specimens indicating a ductile nature of the fracture. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Multi-objective Optimization of FSW Process Variables of Aluminium Matrix Composites Using Taguchi-Based Grey Relational Analysis
    (Springer Nature, 2019) Prabhu B, S.R.B.; Shettigar, A.K.; Herbert, M.A.; Rao, S.S.
Successful joining of aluminium alloys using friction stir welding (FSW) opens a new window research in extending this technique to join aluminium matrix composites (AMCs). Current research is focused on optimization of process variables for multiple responses simultaneously. Experiments were performed using tool pin profile, rotational speed (RS) and welding speed (WS) as ideal process variables for multi-objective optimization in FSW of AMCs. Tensile strength, macro-hardness and elongation are considered as multi-response behaviour. Grey relational grade for the chosen multiple responses are obtained using grey analysis. Analysis of variance was utilized to understand the influence of process variables on the grey relational grade. Analysis reveals that RS and WS were the most influencing process variables on the output responses. Confirmation experiments were performed at optimized process variables to validate the present study. Predicted values were in good agreement with the experimental results. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Examining the Influence of StackinSequence on the Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Abaca-Jute Vinyl Ester Composites
    (Springer Nature, 2024) Ramesh, S.; Maruthi Prashanth, B.H.; Anne, G.; Naik, G.M.; Reddy, R.; Jagadeesh, C.; Sharma, P.; Prashanth Pai, M.
This research looked on the impacts of layer arrange-ment on inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS), tensile, flexural, and impact capabilities of hybrid composite developed from 25% abaca and 25% jute fabrics reinforced 50% vinyl ester. Furthermore, the samples frac-tured under the tensile load were examined using SEM images. Utilizing a hot press process, these hybrid laminates were fabricated and sample preparation and testing were done as per ASTM criteria. The findings demonstrate that among Abaca-Jute-Abaca-Jute (AJAJ), Abaca-Jute-Abaca (AJJA), and Jute-Abaca-Abaca-Jute (JAAJ) vinyl ester composites, the Abaca-Jute-Jute-Abaca (AJJA) composites showed higher tensile modulus and strength by 23–33%, the flexural modulus and strength by 3–22%, the impact behavior, and ILSS strength by 11–33%. These benefits could be attributed to the presence of abaca fiber on the exterior of lami-nates. Fractography studies revealed that the fiber-resin bonding was superior. AJJA composites were found to be stronger than commonly used plastics in automobile interiors, making them a promising alternative. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Effect of reversion heat treatment on the mechanical properties of thermally embrittled UNS S32760 duplex stainless steel
    (Trans Tech Publications Ltd ttp@transtec.ch, 2015) Natesh, M.; Shamanth, V.; Ravishankar, K.S.
Duplex Stainless Steels contain very high chromium contents (19-30% by weight) and exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and extremely good mechanical properties. Embrittlement of duplex stainless steels due to precipitation of αʹ upon prolonged exposure in the temperature range of 280°C to 500°C has been a serious limiting factor for its long term usage in the nuclear industry, where the operating temperatures of cooling pipes is around 300°C. In this investigation, the effect of reversion heat treatment on the mechanical properties of a thermally embrittled duplex stainless steel has been studied. The specimens were solutionized, aged and then reversion treated for varying periods. The aged specimens showed significant increase in tensile strength and decrease in ductility in comparison to the ones in solutionized condition. The specimens which were reversion treated showed marginal decrease in tensile strength and significant increase in ductility after 5 minutes of holding time. As the holding time increased, the tensile strength rapidly decreased and ductility increased initially up to 30 minutes of reversion, after which there was no significant change in strength and ductility. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Optimization of Parameters Influencing Tensile Strength of Inconel-625 Welded Joints Developed Through Microwave Hybrid Heating
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2018) Badiger, R.I.; Narendranath, S.; Srinath, M.S.
Processing of bulk metals through microwave energy in recent years is finding widespread applications and is being prominently accepted by the manufacturing industries. Present work, investigates the effect of process parameters on the tensile strength of Inconel-625welded joints produced through microwave hybrid heating using design of experiments. Experiments were carried out by using Taguchi's L16 factorial design of experiment method. Input parameters chosen were separator type; susceptor type and filler powder size. The output response chosen was ultimate tensile strength. Optimization of the process parameters is done through Taguchi method and percentage influence of each process parameter on the strength of weld is determined using ANOVA method. Combination of parameters with graphite separator, SiCsusceptor and finer filler powder yields optimum result. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.

Influence of cold rolling process on microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu-1.5%Ti alloy
(American Institute of Physics Inc. subs@aip.org, 2018) Ramesh, S.; Shivananda Nayaka, H.S.; Anne, G.; Gopi, K.R.
The effects of cold rolling on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of Cu-1.5%Ti alloy were investigated. The results showed that the tensile strength of the Cu-1.5%Ti alloy increased with an increase of rolling deformation at room temperature. Significant grain refinement took place during rolling process revealed in optical microstructure and transmission electron microscope analysis. XRD patterns revealed peaks indexed to Cu, Cu3-Ti2 and Cu4-Ti3 after 8-pass rolling process. Microhardness of the rolled Cu-1.5%Ti alloy layers increased incessantly with increase in the number of rolling passes. Tensile strength increased up to 294 MPa which was about 1.54 times higher than that of the cast Cu-1.5%Ti alloy. Fracture surfaces of the rolled Cu-1.5%Ti alloy revealed the dimples in the structure, which is an indication of ductile fracture. © 2018 Author(s).

Evaluation of microstructure and mechanical properties of multi axial forged lm2 aluminum alloy
    (Trans Tech Publications Ltd ttp@transtec.ch, 2019) Sajjan, S.S.; Kulkarni, M.V.; Ramesh, S.; Sharath, P.C.; Sangamesh, R.; Kumar, A.; Rajesh, R.
Light metal Al alloys are presently used in aerospace and industrial applications. Hence, in the present study choice of material will be LM2 aluminum alloy and processed by multi-axial forging (MAF) technique at ambient temperature for different number of passes with an equivalent strain of 0.18, 0.36 and 0.54. Microstructural analysis was carried out on unprocessed and processed samples with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As the number of MAF pass increases the average grain size was reduced because of plastic deformation by plane strain condition. Mechanical properties like Vickers hardness (VHN), tensile and compression test were carried out. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) was increased after each pass of MAF due to strain hardening effect. After 3 MAF passes the compression strength was reached to maximum of 495 MPa as compared to as received sample 315 MPa and hardness, increased to 81 VHN as compared to 55 VHN for the received samples. The fractography analysis was explained using SEM images. As the number of passes increases dimple size reduces as compared to as received samples and which will be revealing the ductile mode of fracture. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Studies on microstructure and mechanical characteristics of as cast AA6061/SiC/fly ash hybrid AMCs produced by stir casting
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2020) Patil, S.; Narendranath, S.; Dupadu, D.
Fly ash has been receiving the extensive concentration as a strong reinforcing element for Aluminum Matrix Composites (AMCs) to strengthen the properties and cut the price of manufacturing. AA6061 reinforced with various weight percentages of fly ash particulates and a constant weight percentage of SiC were prepared by stir casting technique as it is one of the simplest and cost-effective method for producing AMCs. Wettability of SiC and Fly ash particles with the aluminum was enhanced by fly ash itself. The microstructure, hardness and tensile properties of manufactured AMCs were analyzed. Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) discovered a harmonized dispersion of SiC and fly ash particles with superior bonding with the matrix material. The inclusion of fly ash particles in to aluminum matrix enhanced the microhardness and Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of the AMCs. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Effect of traverse speed on joint characteristics of FSWed HAMCs
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2020) Patil, S.; Narendranath, S.; Dupadu, D.
The present work describes the evolution of microstructure and enhancement of mechanical properties of friction stir welded AA6061/SiC/FA Hybrid AMCs (HAMCs). Various joints were produced using different traverse speed from 30 mm/min to 80 mm/min. Microstructural analysis was carried out using Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Mechanical characteristics such as ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and microhardness (Hv) were studied. Sound quality joints were obtained by FSW without any defects. Results showed that the microstructure zones are divided in to nugget zone, thermomechanically affected zone, heat affected zone and base material zone. Uniform and fine grain formation took place at traverse speed of 60 mm/min indicating sufficient amount of heat input at this speed. Accordingly maximum joint efficiency of 90% is obtained at this traverse speed. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparative study of natural fibre 3D braided yarn woven fabric and simply twisted yarn woven fabric reinforced epoxy composites
(American Institute of Physics Inc. subs@aip.org, 2020) Kanakannavar, S.; Jeyaraj, P.
In this study natural fibre 3D braided yarn plain woven fabric (NFBF) and natural fibre simply twisted yarn plain woven fabric (NFSF) are prepared and tensile tests are conducted on braided yarn, simply twisted yarn, NFBF and NFSF. Then the tensile results of braided yarn compared with simply twisted yarn and NFBF results with NFSF. The composites are manufactured by reinforcing prepared fabrics (NFBF and NFSF) with the epoxy resin. On these composites tensile and flexural properties characterisation is carried out in warp and weft directions of the fabrics. SEM analysis is used for fractured surface study. The test results showed that, simply twisted yarn and its fabrics (NFSF) are presented better strength than that of the braided yarn and its fabric (NFBF). The NFSF/epoxy composite in warp direction loading received higher tensile strength and flexural strength of about 67.12 MPa and 131 MPa. © 2020 Author(s).
