Item 2-(4-(Diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzyledene) Hydrazinecarboamide as Corrosion Inhibitor on AA2024-T3 Aluminium Alloy in 0.5 M Hydrochloric Acid Solution(Pleiades Publishing compmg@maik.ru, 2018) Prakashaiah, B.G.; Nityananda Shetty, A.; Amitharani, B.E.A new compound 2-(4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzyledene) hydrazinecarboamide (DHBHC) was prepared by the condensation of thiosemicarbazide and diethylaminosalicyaldehyde in ethanol–water mixture and its purity was confirmed with IR, H1 and C13 NMR. Anticorrosion properties of this new compound were studied on the aluminium alloy AA2024-T3 in 0.5M HCl solution at 303 K by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and weight loss method. The inhibition efficiency of DHBHC was found to increase with an increase of its concentration. The inhibition efficiency obtained in this study was 96 ± 3% in the presence of 10 × 10?5 M of DHBHC. The surface morphology of the alloy was investigated both in the presence and in the absence of the inhibitor by field emission scanning electron microscopy, 3D profilometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. © 2018, Allerton Press, Inc.Item Effect of graphene oxide loading on plasma sprayed alumina-graphene oxide composites for improved anticorrosive and hydrophobic surface(IOP Publishing Ltd custserv@iop.org, 2019) Amudha, A.; Shashikala, H.D.; Asiq Rahman, O.S.; Keshri, A.K.; Nagaraja, H.S.Alumina is a widely used anticorrosive coating material for protection of metal surfaces. The graphene oxide (GO)-Alumina composite coatings can enhance the anticorrosion property of carbon steel surfaces used in an industrial scale. In the present work, the spray dried graphene oxide nanoplatelets of 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 wt% reinforced alumina (?-Al2O3) were deposited on the low carbon steel substrate by Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) technique. The GO-Alumina nanocomposite coatings are characterised using XRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM and Raman Spectroscopy. The electrochemical corrosion behaviour of the coatings on carbon steel has been examined using three electrode electrochemical method in 3.5 wt% NaCl electrolyte. A remarkable improvement in the corrosion resistance (with a corrosion current density of 0.01 nAcm-2) of about six orders with respect to pristine alumina was observed. The wettability tests revealed that, with 1.5 and 2 wt% graphene oxide nanoplatelets addition, the surface coating turned out to be hydrophobic with contact angle of 127°, from hydrophilic with contact angle 36°, which complements the anticorrosion results. The in situ reduction of GO to r-GO by APS deposition and bridging of alumina splats by the GO sheets accounts for observing the superior performance of the composite coatings. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.Item Improvement of Anticorrosion Properties of Epoxy Primer Coating on Aluminum Alloy 2024-T3 by Thiosemicarbazone Derivatives(Springer, 2019) Prakashiah, B.G.; Nityananda Shetty, A.N.; Amitha Rani, B.E.The effect of adding thiosemicarbazone derivatives on the anticorrosion properties of epoxy primer coatings on aluminum alloy 2024-T3 was investigated. (E)-2-(2,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (2,4-DHC), (E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (3,4-DHC), and (E)-2-(2,3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (2,3,4-THC) were supplemented to epoxy primer that is generally used in aircraft paint systems; and its anticorrosion property was examined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and salt spray test. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis were used to study the surface topology of the coating system. 2,4-DHC and 3,4-DHC doped primer coating exhibits good barrier properties, while 2,3,4-THC doped primer coating exhibits good barrier properties along with active corrosion protection. © 2019, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.Item Enhancement of Anticorrosion Properties of Epoxy Based Primer Coating by Bis[[3,4-Dihydroxyphenylmethylene] carbonothioicdihydrazide] on AA2024-T3 Alloy(Pleiades journals compmg@maik.ru, 2020) Prakashaiah, B.G.; Nityananda Shetty, A.N.; Amitha Rani, B.E.A.Abstract: A corrosion inhibitor bis[[3,4-dihydroxyphenylmethylene]carbonothioicdihydrazide] (DCT) was synthesized and used to improve the corrosion resistance of an epoxy based primer coating on AA2024-T3 alloy in NaCl solution. The ability of DCT to inhibit the corrosion was evaluated by electrochemical studies. The compound exhibited an inhibition efficiency of 99%. The surfaces of the corroded specimens were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The anticorrosion nature of the substrate coated with a commercial epoxy-based primer doped with DCT was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and a salt spray test. The results established not only the ability of DCT to improve the anticorrosion property of the epoxy based primer coating on AA2024-T3 alloy but also a sustained corrosion protection (1000 h) of the alloy. © 2020, Allerton Press, Inc.
