Nano ZnO-activated carbon composite electrodes for supercapacitors
    (2010) Muthu, M.S.; Bhat, D.K.; Aggarwal, A.; Prahladh Iyer, S.; Sravani, G.
A symmetrical (p/p) supercapacitor has been fabricated by making use of nanostructured zinc oxide (ZnO)-activated carbon (AC) composite electrodes for the first time. The composites have been characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Electrochemical properties of the prepared nanocomposite electrodes and the supercapacitor have been studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and AC impedance spectroscopy in 0.1 M Na2SO4 as electrolyte. The ZnO-AC nanocomposite electrode showed a specific capacitance of 160 F/g for 1:1 composition. The specific capacitance of the electrodes decreased with increase in zinc oxide content. Galvanostatic charge-discharge measurements have been done at various current densities, namely 2, 4, 6 and 7 mA/cm2. It has been found that the cells have excellent electrochemical reversibility and capacitive characteristics in 0.1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. It has also been observed that the specific capacitance is constant up to 500 cycles at all current densities. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Corrosion inhibition of 6061 Al-15 vol. pct. SiC(p) composite and its base alloy in a mixture of sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid by 4-(N,N-dimethyl amino) benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone
    (2011) Geetha, G.M.; Nayak, J.; Nityananda Shetty, A.N.
The corrosion inhibition characteristics of 4-(N,N-dimethylamino) benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (DMABT) on the corrosion behavior of 6061 Al-15 vol. pct. SiC(p) composite and its base alloy were studied at different temperatures in acid mixture medium containing varying concentrations of hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid using Tafel extrapolation technique and ac impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The effect of inhibitor concentration, temperature and concentration of the acid mixture media on the inhibitor action was investigated. It was found that inhibition efficiencies increase with the increase in inhibitor concentration, but decrease with the increase in temperature and with the increase in concentration of the acid media. Thermodynamic parameters for dissolution process were determined. The adsorption of DMABT on both the composite and base alloy was found to be through physisorption obeying Freundlich adsorption isotherm. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Inhibition effect of a new pyrimidine derivative on the corrosion of mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution
    (Allerton Press Incorporation journals@allertonpress.com, 2017) Shetty, P.B.; Suresha Kumara, T.H.; Mamatha, D.M.; Rao, V.R.; Hegde, A.C.
The inhibition effect of a newly synthesized pyrimidine derivative, namely 3-(2-(4-(hydroxymethyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)ethyl)-2-methyl-6,7,8,9-tetrahydropyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-one, on the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl medium was investigated using the weight loss, the Tafel extrapolation technique and the AC impedance spectroscopy. The effect of the inhibitor concentration, temperature and concentration of the acid mixture media on the inhibitor action was also studied. It was observed that the anti-corrosion efficiency increases with an increase in the inhibitor concentration, but decreases with an increase in temperature. Thermodynamic parameters for the dissolution process were determined. The adsorption of the pyrimidine derivative on the mild steel surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. © 2017, Allerton Press, Inc.
