Item Characteristics of normal strength concrete with and without chemical admixtures at elevated temperatures(CAFET INNOVA Technical Society 1-2-18/103, Mohini Mansion, Gagan Mahal Road, Domalguda, Hyderabad 500029, 2011) Yaragal, S.C.; Warad, S.A.; Babu Narayan, K.S.; Venkataramana, K.Fire is one of the most destructive powers to which a building structure can be subjected. Behavior of concrete when exposed to fire in cases like nuclear plants, cooling towers or any accidental fire in industrial buildings, is a serious concern, on the strength retention property of concrete. This work reports strength retention studies on compressive and split tensile strength of normal concrete with and without the chemical admixture (Reobuild 918, BASF make) at elevated temperatures. Concrete cubes of size 100 mm have been cast as per prior mix design for M30 grade of concrete, 28 days water cured and tested by destructive method for strength before exposure. Later these specimen were subjected to elevated temperatures of 200°C, 400°C, 600°C and 800°C with a retention period of 2 hours and were allowed cool within the furnace to reach ambient temperature. Later their appearance, colour and cracks were observed and also weight losses were determined. Further, destructive tests were conducted to estimate residual compressive and residual split tensile strengths and prediction equations are proposed to ascertain splitting tensile strengths from compressive strengths. © 2011 CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY. All rights reserved.Item Life cycle energy analysis of a metro station building envelope through computer based simulation(Elsevier Ltd, 2018) Aneesh, N.R.; Shivaprasad, K.N.; Das, B.B.This study focuses on the energy auditing of a metro terminal station building envelope which is located at a major city in south India. Embodied energy was calculated using the unit embodied energy values and by quantifying major energy consuming material used for the construction of a metro terminal station building. e-Quest, the energy simulation software was used for modelling the terminal station building and thereby calculated the yearly consumption of operational energy. Terminal station building is modelled with a detailed description of the building in e-Quest, which is being analysed with lighting, equipment's, thermostat settings, hourly scheduling of occupants and climatic data as the inputs to the model. In assessing the life cycle energy of the terminal station building, recurring energy and transportation energy were also calculated. In addition, this study discusses the comparative analysis on operational energy consumption for the same metro station model for three different climatic regions across India. Further, the present study on life cycle energy is compared with the life cycle energies of different types of buildings obtained from the literature, for an understanding of the energy usage demand per year per capita, between a public utility building, a commercial building and different types of residential buildings. © 2018 Elsevier LtdItem Enhancement of maximum power output through reconfiguration techniques under non-uniform irradiance conditions(Elsevier Ltd, 2019) Sai Krishna, G.; Moger, T.Partial shading is one of the major drawback which diminishes the power output of the PV array. One of the effective methodologies is reconfiguration strategies, namely shifting the location of PV modules from one place to different places so as to distribute shading effects over the array to increase maximum power output under PSCs. This paper proposed two novel puzzle arrangements followed by Ken-Ken (KK) and Skyscraper (SS) for 4×4 total-cross-tied (TCT) PV array and increase maximum power under PSCs. In this approach, the PV modules in the TCT array is arranged according to Ken-Ken and Skyscraper arrangements without changing the electrical connections. Further, the performance of the proposed arrangements are investigated with different existing PV array configurations by comparing the global maximum power point (GMPP), the voltage at global maximum power point (VGMPP), mismatch losses (ML), fill-factor (FF), efficiency (?) and possible local peaks (PLP) under different shading patterns using Matlab-Simulink. An extensive simulation study is carried out on these configurations under different shading patterns as well as temperatures. Also, a comprehensive comparison has done for various reconfiguration schemes presented in literature. The result shows that the proposed arrangements are enhancing the global maximum power as compared to the other existing configurations. © 2019 Elsevier LtdItem Consumer Centricity as a Delivery Strategy for Assets in the Real Estate Sector: An Analysis of the Framework and Interpretation of Law(American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2023) Krishnamurthy, A.D.; Mahesh, G.Consumer centricity (C-C) in the Indian real estate sector has gained prominence since the introduction of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act in 2016. For a growing economy such as India's, with significant dependence on the construction industry to catalyze economic development, real estate consumerism is of vital importance to spearhead growth in the construction industry. This study critically examined the positioning of consumers in the Indian real estate sector over the years and to date in order to identify areas requiring interventions. Within the framework of the law, key factors defining and contributing to consumer centricity with regard to the delivery of real estate assets were identified. Various real estate sector-specific statutes were traced back along a timeline; they were assessed for the presence of the identified consumer-centric factors. The changes in legislative intent over time were coupled with timely judicial interpretations of laws in courts and regulatory forums. Lastly statutes of significance to real estate asset delivery were probed for inherent loopholes in their frameworks. The growing impetus to consumer centricity both in the making and interpretation of real estate laws was clearly established in the present study. However, existing laws of importance to real estate asset delivery were identified to be contributors to the creation and preservation of an inherent imbalance in the design and power structure of the sector, to the detriment of consumers of real estate assets. The findings undoubtedly indicate that to stimulate growth in the construction industry, the need of the hour is to place consumer centricity at the heart of affairs through the correction of inherent loopholes in the framework of law governing real estate asset delivery. © 2022 American Society of Civil Engineers.Item Analysis of Sources of Claims in Residential Real Estate Asset Delivery(American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2024) Krishnamurthy, A.D.; Mahesh, G.Residential real estate sector in India plays a pivotal role in supplying living accommodation to meet the ever-rising demand for housing. In the Indian context, the growth in housing supply has always lagged behind the demand. The present study examines the residential real estate sector to identify recurrent sources of claims hampering efficient delivery of housing assets. In mass urban housing supply by private real estate promoters/developers, 19 key factors reflective of the absence of time-bound, cost-certain and scope-adherent delivery of residential assets were identified. Following this, a questionnaire survey was undertaken to gain the viewpoints of relevant sector-specific stakeholders on the identified factors. Statistical analyses were subsequently conducted to arrive at key claim-causing factors bearing relevance to deficient housing delivery in India. Assessment of the viewpoints of a diverse set of real estate stakeholders pointed toward the presence of significant deterrents in the form of delays and cost-escalators, leading to unavoidable claims and litigation between residential real estate promoters/developers and consumers. The findings indicate the pressing need to optimize residential real estate asset delivery in India through the addressing of recurrent claims with respect to delays and cost-escalation. © 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers.Item Influence of Legal Environment on Housing Delivery(American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2024) Krishnamurthy, A.D.; Mahesh, G.Developing economies worldwide are pressed by the fundamental need of housing for their citizens. The present study assessed the influence of the existent legal environment in India on the delivery of assets in private housing market. In mass urban housing supply by private real estate promoters/developers, 14 key factors contributing to deficient housing supply were identified from within the framework and interpretation of real estate laws, while 33 factors captured deficiencies in execution of laws. A questionnaire survey was undertaken to gain the viewpoints of relevant sector-specific stakeholders on the identified factors. Statistical analyses were conducted to arrive at factors bearing statistical significance to deficient housing delivery. Gaping loopholes in the framework and interpretation of real estate laws were ascertained to have been further exacerbated by inefficiencies in execution of laws. The findings reflect the pressing need to enhance the efficiency of existent legal environment to optimize housing delivery in India. © 2024 American Society of Civil Engineers.
