Item The behaviour of class-3 type prestressed concrete beams, at the limit states of cracking, deflexion and collapse are investigated by experiments on pretensioned beams with mild steel as supplementary reinforcement. Several methods of calculating the width of cracks are examined in the light of experimental results and an empirical formula, which includes the effect of percentage of untensioned reinforcement is suggested. The deflexions of beams, based on the method of Beeby and Taylor, were marginally conservative when compared with the experimental results. The ultimate moment capacity of concrete sections with tensioned and untensioned reinforcement, was underestimated by as much as 10, 15 and 25 per cent by the Indian, British and American Code recommendations. © 1973.(Flexural behaviour of pretensioned concrete beams with limited prestress) Krishna Raju, N.; Basavarajaiah, B.S.; Ahamed Kutty, U.C.1973Item Mathematical programming techniques have been used to minimize the cost of T-beam floors. One-way continous slabs and simply supported T-beams have been designed by the limit state approach in accordance with CP 110-1972 using M25 grade concrete and cold worked high yield reinforcement. Cost of one of the bays has been minimized using the DFP algorithm. Parametric studies have been carried out for various span ratios, cost ratios of materials and magnitudes of imposed loads. Use of the design charts developed has been explained. © 1981.(Design charts for optimal design of T-beam floors) Subramanyam, A.V.; Adidam, S.R.1981Item Three post-tensioned unbonded beams were tested along with three bonded beams and the experimental test results are presented in this paper. The beams are rectangular in cross-section, simply supported and loaded at third-points. Development of cracking pattern, behaviour beyond the service loads and load-deflection response are of primary interest. The results of the tests are compared with those computed from the codes of the Indian Standards Institution and the American Concrete Institute.(PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS WITH UNBONDED TENDONS.)
