CNC Machine Shop Floor Facility Layout Design Using Genetic Algorithm
    (Springer, 2020) Vadivel, V.; Sequeira, A.H.; Jauhar, S.K.; Amirthagadeswaran, K.S.; Aravind Krishna, T.
The facility layout is a well-planned process to assimilate equipment, human resources, and materials for processing a product most effectively. The facility layout problem (FLP) is an optimization problem that involves determining the shape and location of various departments within a facility, based on the inter-department distance and volume measures. CRAFT algorithm is one of the primary methods currently used for the optimization of facility layouts. The aim of this is analyzing and assessing various proposed layouts through this algorithm. The objective is to minimize the total layout cost. It depends on the material flow and distance between the departments. An attempt has also been made to optimize the layout through GA. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

India Post Service Facility Layout Design Selection and Evaluation Using MCDM Approach
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) Vadivel, S.M.; Sanjai, S.; Siri, S.; Sequeira, A.H.
This study uses the AHP technique to assess and choose the best facility layout based on technical practices, work environment, and ergonomics factors. This study will be beneficial in determining ways to improve operational performance in light of facility layout changes. We initially developed six logical layouts based on the field survey, which were approved by all shop floor staff, managers, and postal administrations to be evaluated under production performance layout schemes. Six alternative layouts, three performance criteria, and 13 sub-criteria were taken into consideration in this Facility Layout Design (FLD) problem. The analysis of the FLD in shop floor postal layouts yielded amazing results. This empirical investigation was conducted in India's southernmost National Sorting Hub (NSH) Mysore, Karnataka. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Modular Kitchen Layout Design Using AHP Method – An Indian Case Perspective
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2024) Vadivel, S.M.; Suganya, P.; Devanathan, C.; Sequeira, A.H.; Abhinav, A.
This study uses the AHP technique to assess and choose the best facility layout based on cooking practices, work environment, and ergonomics (anthropometric) factors. This study will be beneficial in determining ways to minimize the cooking time in light of facility layout changes. We initially developed four logical layouts based on the survey, which were approved by all family members, neighbors, relations, friends, and working women in the apartment to be evaluated under various performance layout schemes. Four alternative layouts, three performance criteria were taken into consideration in this Facility Layout Design (FLD) problem. The analysis of the FLD was conducted in Park Avenue, Vijay Shanthi apartments, Chennai, Southern India. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Enhancement of mail operational performance of India post facility layout using AHP
    (Springer, 2020) Vadivel, V.; Sequeira, A.H.; Shetty, D.S.; Jauhar, S.K.
The paper intends to evaluate the facility layout design (FLD) models using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method. FLD focuses on streamlining the workflow and increasing productivity. This study examines how the model can help to find out the optimum layout to improve the production metrics through improving operations and the working environment attributes. In this study, seven layout designs have been discussed under critical parameters of optimal layouts such as cost (operation and flexibility) and working environment (safety, facilities, and control). This case study FLD conducted in national sorting hub, Mangalore, and Karnataka State in the southern part of India. Empirical results show that the AHP method is one of the promising ways to solve the FLD problem. © 2019, The Society for Reliability Engineering, Quality and Operations Management (SREQOM), India and The Division of Operation and Maintenance, Lulea University of Technology, Sweden.
