The V2G acts as a source and can be connected to the grid for shaving peak. The information and communication technology (ICT) will play a key role in V2G communications in smart grid environment. The aggregator acts as an interface between the grid control center and electrical vehicles. The communication between grid control center and aggregator is crucial and it is the responsibility of the aggregator to mobilize the electrical vehicles and facilitate the EV's to get connected to the grid by providing them the required parking slot for the EV's based on the state of the battery. In this paper we have analyzed the performance of IEEE 802.16-2004 for grid control center and aggregator communication. The IEEE 802.16-2004 physical layer modeling is performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. © 2013 IEEE.Item On-board Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) integrator for power transaction in smart grid environment(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014) Koduri, N.; Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.The growing oil demands and the economic concerns have inspired the governments, car manufactures and the environmentalist to promote the manufacturing of Electrical Vehicles (EV). With developments in the power grid and advancements in the vehicle technology the EVs can contribute to the grid by selling or buying power from the grid. For the effective and efficient use of the V2G there is a major scope to develop the V2G integrators like On-Board and Off-Board. In this paper the On-Board V2G integrator is proposed and is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The conversion efficiency of 90% is obtained and the benefits of V2G are listed. © 2014 IEEE.Item Long term evolution protocol for grid control center to aggregator communication in V2G for smart grid application(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) concept has become a reality with developments in the power grid and vehicle technology. The electrical vehicle (EV) can be connected to the grid to contribute power and help in maintaining the grid stability for shorter duration of time. The communication between the grid control center (GCC) and Aggregator is very crucial as GCC sends the power requirement details to the aggregator. In this paper we propose Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol for GCC to Aggregator communication in V2G. The physical layer of LTE protocol is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK and its performance is investigated. © 2014 IEEE.Item Performance investigation of mobile WiMAX protocol for aggregator and electrical vehicle communication in Vehicle-to-Grid(V2G)(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.With the developments in smart power grid and electrical vehicle technology the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) has become reality. The V2G plays a prominent role in meeting the load demands either peak shaving or valley filling in power management. The aggregator acts as an interface between the power grid and electrical vehicles and communication between them plays a key role. The mobile WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) 802.16e is proposed as a communication protocol for aggregator and electrical vehicle communication. The path loss models are compared and simulation of WiMAX 802.16e physical layer is carried out using MATLAB and its performance is investigated. © 2014 IEEE.Item Development of WSN system for precision agriculture(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2015) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.The agriculture sector is changing rapidly pointing to the future of automated and embedded systems with an array of sensors to monitor and control the growing plants in a way to protect workers, the environment and profits associated with it. The continuous monitoring and controlling of distantly located plants is labour intensive and technically challenging business. In modern precision agriculture, a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) provides a simple cost effective solution to monitor and control. The basic parameters to be monitored are temperature and humidity (moisture content in the soil). A smart low cost WSN system for precision agriculture is proposed for monitoring and control using open software and electronic prototype - ARDUINO. © 2015 IEEE.Item Markov chain based stochastic model of electric vehicle parking lot occupancy in vehicle-to-grid(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.The concept of connecting group of electric vehicles (EVs) to the grid for power transaction is known as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G). The EVs can be connected to the grid through V2G integrators and charging slots. The arrival of EVs in parking lot is time varying and random in nature and facilitating them to participate in power transaction is challenging and aggregator's responsibility. In this paper, development of Markov chain based stochastic model of Electric Vehicle Parking Lot (EVPL) occupancy is proposed. A developed model is simulated using MATLAB and the results are presented. © 2015 IEEE.Item Stochastic Model of Electric Vehicle Parking Lot Occupancy in Vehicle-to-grid (V2G)(Elsevier Ltd, 2016) Hampannavar, S.; Yaragatti, R.Y.The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) is a concept of connecting group of electrical vehicles (EV) to the grid for power transaction. EVs can be connected to the grid through the home interface or through the chargers available at charging stations. In this paper, a single phase on-board charger with low complexity control scheme is proposed for EV power transaction. The power flow from and to the grid is processed using two stage cascaded converters consisting of a bidirectional DC-DC and DC-AC converters. The LCL filter is used as an interface between DC-AC converter and the grid to attenuate the grid current harmonics. A proportional resonant (PR) controller is employed for the control of grid current and to enable the unity power factor operation of the DC-AC converter. The setbacks associated with the conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller for single phase system is elevated by employing PR controller. Filter design guidelines and the control strategy developed for the proposed system is numerically simulated and verified with extensive simulation carried using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The results demonstrating the feasibility and viability of the proposed system are presented. © 2017 IEEE.Item GEV Aggregator Placement in Distribution Network Using 802.16 Protocol(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Hampannavar, S.; Lakshmi, M.S.; Teshale, A.T.; Udaykumar, R.Y.Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is a viable solution to meet the grid requirements with present developments in electric vehicle (EV) technology and power grid. The standard presents Hamming window as a reference algorithm for M-Class PMU whereas, in this paper we use Blackman window algorithm. The performance of M-Class PMU is analyzed with both the algorithms by taking two case studies in which input given to the PMU is contaminated with different levels of harmonics, inter-harmonics and frequency ramps in each case and it is found that, the errors in frequency and rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) measured by PMU are reduced by a factor of >100 with the Blackman window algorithm when compared to a Hamming window algorithm (which is specified in the standard). © 2020 IEEE.
