Item Performance comparison of MANET routing protocols(2010) Kumar, J.; Kulkarni, M.; Gupta, D.A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes forming a temporary network without using any existing infrastructure. Since not many MANETs are currently deployed, research in this area is simulation based. We have compared different routing protocols like DSR, DSDV, AODV to study the mobility characteristics of different scenarios in which MANETs may be deployed. Evaluation of the impact of different mobility models on the performance of these routing protocols is carried out, based upon different parameters-throughput, Packet delivery ratio, end to end delay, and offered traffic load. Also, mobility models are compared based on these performance parameters in various routing protocols. © 2010 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.Item Importance of geology and soil survey for mobile communication site planning using RS/GIS technology(2010) Naveenchandra, B.; Lokesh, K.N.; Usha; Gangadhara Bhat, H.G.Geology and Soil survey constitutes a valuable resource inventory linked with the survival of life on the earth. The technological advancements in the field of remote sensing and Geographical Information System have been a boon for such surveys. The present paper describes the role of Remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) technologies for geological mapping and characterizing the importance of soils at various scales for identification of suitable sites for mobile communication network. Cellular network design is becoming more and more important since the network quality is highly dependent on the distribution of base stations. To design a cellular network for a particular region efficiently and accurately, the site suitability is an important determination. The country's mobile services market is forecast to grow by a compound annual rate of 28.3% in next five years. India is a vibrant market from communications point of view. The subscriber base in the wireless market in India, the world's fastest growing telecom market reached another milestone when it surpassed 200 million subscribers in Aug 2008. At present there are around 54000 cell sites operated by different GSM/CDMA operators. This number would further go up to 80,000 in next couple of years. To serve an increasing number of users requires an increasing number of base stations. Thus, operators must carefully plan the deployment and configurations of radio base stations to support voice and data traffic at a level of quality expected by customers. The present study carried out in the Udupi district of Karnataka State based on IRS 1C/1D LISS-III and CARTOSAT-1 satellite data. Various thematic maps like geology, soil, geomorphology, slope and land use/land cover with DEM has helped in understanding the terrain in a better way. The multi spectral satellite data in conjunction with SuperGIS, SuperPad and Getac GPS hardware have helped to formulate suitable plans and strategies for an effective Telecom planning and development in Udupi district. © 2010 CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY. All rights reserved.Item A reverse sealed-bid auction system for mobile commerce(UK Simulation Society Clifton Lane Nottingham NG11 8NS, 2012) Singh, M.P.; Kella, S.In recent years, the demand for mobile commerce has increased. Due to this increased demand, mobile devices usage in internet auctions has also increased. In this paper, we propose a reverse sealed-bid auction model using collaborative mobile agents (MoRSAS) which can be used on mobile-based environment. We also proposed a new auction protocol using ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem) based signcryption scheme which reduces the computational load and communication overhead, providing high security with small key size. In our proposal, Trusted Dealer (TD) is the one who generates auction keys and key shares, also works like registration manager. Our method reduces the network load and executes the auction process efficiently. The proposed protocol satisfies the security requirements of sealed-bid auction protocol, like confidentiality, anonymity, bid privacy etc. © 2012, UK Simulation Society. All rights reserved.Item Digital signature-based secure node disjoint multipath routing protocol for wireless sensor networks(2012) Shiva Murthy, G.; D'Souza, R.J.; Varaprasad, G.The objective of energy efficient routing protocol is to increase the operational lifetime of the wireless sensor networks. Multipath routing protocols enhance the lifetime of the wireless sensor networks by distributing traffic among multiple paths instead of a single optimal path. Transmission of secured data is also an important research concern in the wireless sensor networks. In this paper, a secure node disjoint multipath routing protocol for wireless sensor networks is proposed. Here, the data packets are transmitted in a secure manner by using the digital signature crypto system. It is compared with an ad hoc on-demand multipath distance vector routing protocol. It shows better results in terms of packet delivery fraction, energy consumption, and end-to-end delay compared to the ad hoc on-demand multipath distance vector routing. © 2012 IEEE.Item A secure and lightweight authentication scheme for roaming service in global mobile networks(Elsevier Ltd, 2018) Madhusudhan, R.; ShashidharaGlobal Mobile Network provides global roaming service to the users moving from one network to another. It is essential to authenticate and protect the privacy of roaming users. Recently, Marimuthu and Saravanan proposed a secure authentication scheme for roaming service in mobile networks. This scheme can protect user anonymity, untraceability, and is believed to have many abilities to resist a range of attacks in global mobile networks. In this paper, we analyse the security strength of their scheme and show that the authentication protocol is in fact insecure against insider attack, stolen-verifier attack, impersonation attack, denial-of-service attack, synchronization problem, lack of user anonymity and operational inefficiencies. Hence, we propose a secure and lightweight authentication scheme for Global Mobile Networks. In addition, the proposed scheme requires few message exchanges between the entities such as MU (Mobile User), FA (Foreign Agent) and HA (Home Agent). The scheme ensures both communication and computation efficiency as compared to the well-known authentication schemes. The performance analysis shows that the proposed authentication scheme is well suited for resource limited wireless and mobile environments. © 2017 Elsevier LtdItem Implementation and validation of BLUE and PI queue disciplines in ns-3(Elsevier B.V., 2018) Jain, V.; Mittal, V.; K S, S.; Tahiliani, M.P.High queuing delay arising out of the bufferbloat problem has reignited research in the area of Active Queue Management (AQM). The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has created a new working group to discuss the deployment feasibility of existing and upcoming AQM algorithms (or queuing disciplines) in the Internet. Network simulations are essential to gain an accurate and deep understanding of the network algorithms before they are deployed in the Internet. ns-3 is among the most widely used network simulators, and the recent addition of Linux-like traffic control subsystem in ns-3 makes it highly suitable and reliable for studying the performance of queuing disciplines. However, the current traffic control subsystem in ns-3 has very few queuing disciplines. In an effort to provide support for more queuing disciplines and foster active research in this area, we implement two popular algorithms in ns-3: BLUE and Proportional Integral controller (PI). This paper discusses the implementation and validation of the proposed models in ns-3, and presents a detailed comparative study of both queuing disciplines based on the evaluation guidelines provided in RFC 7928. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.Item PhishDump: A multi-model ensemble based technique for the detection of phishing sites in mobile devices(Elsevier B.V., 2019) Rao, R.S.; Vaishnavi, T.; Pais, A.R.Phishing is a technique in which the attackers trick the online users to reveal the sensitive information by creating the phishing sites which look similar to that of legitimate sites. There exist many techniques to detect phishing sites in desktop computers. In recent years, the number of mobile users accessing the web has increased which lead to a rise in the number of attacks in mobile devices. Existing techniques designed for desktop computers may not be suitable for mobile devices due to their hardware limitations such as RAM, Screen size, low computational power etc. In this paper, we propose a mobile application named PhishDump to classify the legitimate and phishing websites in mobile devices. PhishDump is based on the multi-model ensemble of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. As PhishDump focuses on the extraction of features from URL, it has several advantages over existing works such as fast computation, language independence and robust to accidental download of malwares. From the experimental analysis, we observed that our proposed multi-model ensemble outperformed traditional LSTM character and word-level models. PhishDump performed better than the existing baseline models with an accuracy of 97.30% on our dataset and 98.50% on the benchmark dataset. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.Item Mobile user authentication protocol with privacy preserving for roaming service in GLOMONET(Springer, 2020) Madhusudhan, R.; Shashidhara, R.In GLObal MObile NETwork (GLOMONET), it is essential to authenticate and provide secure communication between a user, foreign agent, and the home agent using session key. Designing a secure and efficient authentication protocol for roaming users in the mobile network is a challenging. In order to secure communication over an insecure channel, a number of authentication schemes have been proposed. The main weakness of the existing authentication protocols is that attackers have the ability to impersonate a legal user at any time. In addition, the existing protocols are vulnerable to various kind of cryptographic attacks such as insider attack, bit flipping attack, forgery attacks, denial-of-service attack, unfair key agreement and cannot provide user’s anonymity. To remedy these weaknesses and to achieve low communication and computation costs, we proposed a secure authentication scheme for roaming users. In addition, the formal verification tools ProVerif and AVISPA is used to check the correctness of the proposed protocol. Finally, the performance evaluation and simulation results shows that the proposed scheme is efficient in terms of communication and computational cost. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Item A novel DNA based password authentication system for global roaming in resource-limited mobile environments(Springer, 2020) Madhusudhan, R.; Shashidhara RMobile environments are highly vulnerable to security threats and pose a great challenge for the wireless and mobile networks being used today. Because the mode of a wireless channel is open, these networks do not carry any inherent security and hence are more prone to attacks. Therefore, designing a secure and robust protocol for authentication in a global mobile network is always a challenging. In these networks, it is crucial to provide authentication to establish a secure communication between the Mobile User (MU), Foreign Agent (FA) and Home Agent (HA). In order to secure communication among these entities, a number of authentication protocols have been proposed. The main security flaw of the existing authentication protocols is that attackers have the ability to impersonate a legal user at any time. Moreover, the existing authentication protocols in the literature are exposed to various kind of cryptographic attacks. Besides, the authentication protocols require larger key length and more computation overhead. To remedy these weaknesses in mobility networks, DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid) based authentication scheme using Hyper Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem (HECC) is introduced. It offers greater security and allows an MU, FA and HA to establish a secure communication channel, in order to exchange the sensitive information over the radio link. The proposed system derive benefit from HECC, which is smaller in terms of key size, more computational efficiency. In addition, the security strength of this authentication system is validated through widely accepted security verification tool called ProVerif. Further, the performance analysis shows that the DNA based authentication system using HECC is secure and practically implementable in the resource-constrained mobility nodes. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Item Asymptotic bit error rate analysis of convergent underwater wireless optical communication-free-space optical system over combined channel model for different turbulence and weather conditions with pointing errors(SPIE, 2020) Bhargava Kumar, B.K.; Krishnan, P.The differential phase-shift keying-based dual-hop underwater wireless optical communication-free-space optics (UWOC-FSO) convergent system is proposed for UOWSNs and Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) applications. In the proposed system, the collected sensor data are transmitted to a decode-and-forward relay using underwater optical wireless communication links modeled as gamma-gamma distribution. The relay transmits the signal to the terrestrial destination using free-space optical link modeled as Malaga distribution. The end-to-end performance of the system (novel expression for asymptotic bit error rate) is derived and analyzed over combined channel model (including the effects of attenuation, turbulence, and pointing errors for both FSO and UWOC channels). The in-depth study is carried out for different weather conditions of FSO (attenuation - very clear, haze, rain, and fog; turbulence - weak and strong; and pointing error - weak and strong based on the g values 1, 2, and 6) and UWOC (attenuation - clear, coastal ocean, and turbid harbor; turbulence - weak, moderate, and strong; and pointing error - weak and strong based on the g values 1, 2, and 6), respectively. The proposed system is highly useful in coastal environments, where the climate is changing adequately as clear, rain, haze, and fog. © 2020 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
