Design of a Wheel Assembly with a Double Bearing System for Formula Student Cars
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) Rakshith, N.
The wheel assembly is the outboard link of the suspension mechanism. Its main function is to hold the wheel in the required position. The design of the wheel assembly is based on and controlled by important vehicle dynamic parameters like camber caster KPI, etc. It is important to keep these quantities close to the ideal/desired values as possible to get the desired performance. This paper proposes a version of the wheel assembly which uses double bearings and designed with a modular design approach to make the design simpler and more reliable for formula student cars. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

New Locking Mechanism for Safe Landing
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Rakshith, N.
A study shows that 53% of all aviation accidents while landing occur because of human error. There is a high possibility that the orientation of the landing gear mechanism changing/moving from the position required for proper landing the aircraft (toggle/extreme position) because of loads along or opposite to the direction of motion of the landing gear. To avoid this, the pilot has to take extra precautions and follow a really complex procedure for landing, and this mitigates the risk but does not eliminate the possibility of motion completely as human error cannot be eliminated. In this paper, I aim to propose an approach of locking the landing gear mechanism in its extreme position and eliminate the risk of it changing its orientation while landing, by using an additional set of slider crank mechanisms which restricts the motion of the landing mechanism. By doing this, we eliminate the risk of motion of the landing gear during landing and thus reduce the risk of an accident during landing. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
