Experimental and numerical analysis of lateral–torsional buckling behaviour of monosymmetric simply supported beam
    (Springer Nature, 2024) Mathew, D.B.; Girija, K.; Nazeer, M.; Anagha, N.; Jeyapragasm, V.V.K.
Design of monosymmetric I-beam is considered to be difficult for common steel design engineers due to the complications involved in determination of elastic lateral–torsional buckling (LTB) moment capacity. An attempt is made in this study to examine the LTB behaviour of welded monosymmetric I-beam subjected to constant moment. Two systematic experiments were done, (i) to understand the influence of compression flange in LTB of monosymmetric I-beams and, (ii) to develop the validated numerical model. Using this validated numerical model, the results were generated for various parameters with the primary focus on end moments ratios. As the design guidelines of IS:800-2007 and Eurocode 3 are slightly different for monosymmetric flexural member capacity calculations, design parameters are scrutinised carefully. Although the GBTUL and LT-beam software can help in determining the elastic critical moment of monosymmetric beam, this is not utilised so far to update the code provisions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
