Item A bibliometric analysis on mobile government research(Inderscience Publishers, 2021) Hebbar, S.; Kiran, K.B.Mobile government (MG) being a critical subset of e-government system has gained a lot of prominence among the practitioners and researchers. With its complex nature, MG has not achieved the desired success rate, and has therefore led to numerous research studies. Thus, with the diverse literatures on MG, it is critical to take stock of the existing literature and systematically categorise all documents. This will assist the aspiring researchers in understanding the topic, categorising and systematically deriving the objectives for their study. Thus, this study performs a bibliometric analysis (co-citation analysis and bibliometric coupling analysis) using Scopus database on MG research. The resulting clusters from these analyses are then used to identify the seminal works, themes in MG research and to determine research gaps for directing future studies. Overall, this study gives clear picture of MG research and also directs future research that contributes significantly to the field. © © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.Item An Exploration of Trust as an Antecedent of Unified Payment Interface Usage: A SEM-Neural Network Approach(IGI Global, 2022) Saha, P.; Kiran, K.B.The introduction of UPI has revolutionized the Indian banking system, and since then, dynamics of the payment ecosystem has noted a major transformation. UPI has proved to be a boon in the pandemic situation by facilitating contactless and remote transactions. Thus, it is crucial to study user acceptance of payments using UPI and factors influencing its usage. The present paper extended UTAUT3 (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) with an additional construct called 'trust'. Studies on behavioral intention are not rare. But behavioral intention towards UPI usage is not yet explored. What makes this study unique is its attempt to use both SEM and neural network to analyze data. It will guide future researchers to pursue technology adoption studies using this multi-method technique. The novelty also resides in the fact that trust, the newly added construct, has proved to be the most important antecedent of behavioral intention towards UPI usage. © © 2022, IGI Global.Item Assessing the predictors of intention to use unified payment interface: the role of age and gender as moderators(Inderscience Publishers, 2025) Saha, P.; Kiran, K.B.Discovering significant predictors of behavioural intention towards unified payment interface (UPI) usage is crucial because UPI is an exemplary digital innovation and UPI enabled payments are preferred by both payer and payee. The present study extended UTAUT3 with an additional construct called word of mouth content (WOMC) and verified its influence on the intention of UPI users. The study also examines whether age and gender moderate the association between WOMC and intention. Data were collected using consumer intercept survey and analysed with structural equation modelling. The moderating effects were examined using multi-group analysis. The results state that performance expectancy, social influence, habit, personal innovativeness and WOMC are significant predictors of the intention of UPI users and the relationship between WOMC and intention differs across gender but not across age. This study is the first of its kind to carry out empirical research on the adoption of UPI in an emerging economy like India. © © 2025 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.Item Awareness and Knowledge of Micro Health Insurance: A Case Study of Sampoorna Suraksha Programme in Karnataka, India(2012) Savitha; Kiran, K.B.Micro health insurance (MHI) is an innovative health financing mechanism that caters to the insurance need of the bottom of the pyramid in India to tackle the impoverishing effects of huge medical bills and mitigate iatrogenic poverty. This study was conducted to ascertain the knowledge and awareness on the scheme features of Sampoorna Suraksha Programme (SSP), a micro insurance programme initiated by SKDRDP (Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project) in Karnataka, India. A descriptive study was conducted in three randomly selected districts namely Dakshina Kananda, Uttara Kannada and Gadag, in Karnataka. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire from the insured members of SSP adopting survey methodology. Our study affirms that insured members of SSP have different levels of knowledge and awareness on the various features of SSP. The results indicate that the degree of knowledge and awareness of the main features of SSP (benefits of package, excluded diseases and network hospitals) were more prevalent amongst members who have been renewing rather than the newly insured SSP members. We reiterate that such positive trends on knowledge and awareness were attributable to high income, educational level, and members living in more developed districts of Karnataka. 2012 Indian Institute of Health Management Research.Item Awareness and Knowledge of Micro Health Insurance: A Case Study of Sampoorna Suraksha Programme in Karnataka, India(2012) Basri, S.; Kiran, K.B.Micro health insurance (MHI) is an innovative health financing mechanism that caters to the insurance need of the bottom of the pyramid in India to tackle the impoverishing effects of huge medical bills and mitigate iatrogenic poverty. However, in order for these services to be implemented and adopted successfully, the government must first understand citizens’ perceptions toward the use of social media (SM Attitude). As a result, the study attempted to investigate the influence of predictors of m-government adoption, as well as the moderating role of SM attitude toward government use of this platform and prior electronic government experience on the adoption of m-government services. For this purpose, primary data is gathered using a questionnaire, with a total of 1101 responses collected and then analyzed using the Covariance Based Structural Equation Modelling technique. The findings demonstrated the importance of predictors such as relative advantage, compatibility, image, social influence, and trust in predicting behavioral intention to use m-government services. Furthermore, the moderation analysis revealed the presence of differences in perception among individuals with stronger and weaker social media attitudes on the variables social influence and image, and its relationship with m-government adoption. © The Author(s) 2025.Item DIGITAL FINANCIAL SERVICES (DFS) AND PRODUCTIVITY OF INDIAN BANKING SECTOR - EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE USING MALMQUIST PRODUCTIVITY INDEX AND PANEL DATA REGRESSION; SERVIÇOS FINANCEIROS DIGITAIS (DFS) E PRODUTIVIDADE DO SETOR BANCÁRIO INDIANO - EVIDÊNCIA EMPÍRICA USANDO ÍNDICE DE PRODUTIVIDADE MALMQUIST E REGRESSÃO DE DADOS EM PAINEL; SERVICIOS FINANCIEROS DIGITALES (DFS) Y PRODUCTIVIDAD DEL SECTOR BANCARIO INDIO - EVIDENCIA EMPÍRICA UTILIZANDO EL ÍNDICE DE PRODUCTIVIDAD DE MALMQUIST Y LA REGRESIÓN DE DATOS DE PANEL(ANPAD - Associacao Nacional de Pos-Graduacao e Pesquisa em Administracao, 2024) Sreekanth, S.P.; Kiran, K.B.Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the impact of Digital Financial Services (DFS) on the productivity of banking sector in India. Theoretical framework: This research considered various digital banking services offered by bank and how it affects the actual bank performance in terms of productivity, by adopting a two-stage model i.e., Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) and panel data regression. Design/Methodology/Approach: The empirical study was based on eight-year balanced panel data from 2012 to 2020. The sample of the study consists of forty-four commercial banks from India. This study is completely based on secondary data collected from the website of the database of the Indian economy and the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). To achieve the research goals, a two-stage approach has been used. Initially, Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) was employed to estimate the total factor productivity changes. In the second phase, panel regression analyses were used to study the impact of Digital Financial Services (DFS) on bank productivity. Findings: The findings show that the Digital Financial Services (DFS) variables such as mobile banking, online banking, Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) and Point of Sale (POS) transactions are significantly improved the productivity of the Indian banking industry. A Citizen Perspective From India(IGI Global, 2022) Hebbar, S.; Kiran, K.B.In Web 4.0 technologies, social media (SM) has emerged as a prominent tool for the government to interact and engage with citizens. It is also an effective channel for providing government services. However, for effective implementation and its success, it is critical to understand the citizens' perceptions towards the government's use of SM and its impact on mobile government (MG) adoption. Consequently, the study focuses on assessing the impact of SM influence and electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) on MG service parameters such as MG awareness, MG transparency, and MG trust. The results of structural equation modelling revealed the significance of e-WOM on improving MG awareness and trust and SM influence. Further, SM influence had a direct impact only on MG transparency. However, results revealed the importance of SM influence and MG transparency as a mediator for MG trust. Gender and age as moderators are investigated and discussed in detail. © © 2022, IGI Global.Item Effectiveness of micro health insurance on financial protection: Evidence from India(2015) Savitha, S.; Kiran, K.B.Iatrogenic poverty caused by inadequate public expenditure on health, lack of social health insurance and low penetration of private health insurance can be mitigated by micro health insurance (MHI) schemes that provide financial protection. The empirical evidence on the impact of MHI on financial protection is limited in India. This paper elucidates the effect of Sampoorna Suraksha Programme (SSP), a MHI scheme in Karnataka on financial protection. Cross-sectional study was undertaken in Karnataka and the data was gathered from 416 insured, 366 newly insured and 364 uninsured households. The impact of SSP on out of pocket expenses (OOPE), catastrophic health expenditure (CHE), non-medical consumption expenditure, hardship financing and labour supply was analysed using linear and logistic regression methods. Results of the study demonstrate that insured members incurred lower OOPE, CHE and hardship finance. There was no effect on consumption expenditure and no direct impact on labour supply measured in terms of withdrawal from workforce and substitution of labour. We advocate a larger role of MHI in health financing in India since it curtails impoverishment of households in informal sector by reducing OOPE and hardship financing. 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York.Item Effectiveness of micro health insurance on financial protection: Evidence from India(Springer New York LLC barbara.b.bertram@gsk.com, 2015) Basri, B.; Kiran, K.B.Iatrogenic poverty caused by inadequate public expenditure on health, lack of social health insurance and low penetration of private health insurance can be mitigated by micro health insurance (MHI) schemes that provide financial protection. The current state of the environment, the socioeconomic divide, and insufficient access to resources and opportunities are the primary concerns. Recent academic works have highlighted the concept of sustainable entrepreneurship as a solution to minimizing the negative effects of entrepreneurial industries on environmental deterioration and social inequality. Scholarly interest in this field has grown in recent years as a result of its ability to incorporate the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. However, there is still a lack of awareness and understanding of nature and the future of sustainable entrepreneurship in both theory and practice. Therefore, this systematic review paper along with the bibliometric analysis aims to show how sustainable entrepreneurship has changed after the introduction of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on recent research trends. This literature review will reveal the trend and ascertain the future directions for novel and senior researchers in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2023.Item Illness Makes Credit Sick: Can Health Insurance Rescue the Poor from Exploitative Credit(2016) Savitha, B.; Kiran, K.B.Health shocks cripple poor households through hardship financing and impoverishment. Borrowing from non-market sources is the most common strategy used by these households, which eventually pushes them into a debt trap. Micro health insurance (MHI) is expected to reduce the reliance on these sources of finance by ensuring financial protection. We use the data from a cross-sectional study undertaken in Karnataka to investigate any association between MHI and non-market credit during health shocks. The sample size was 1,146 consisting of 416 insured households and the remaining being uninsured. The analysis of the data shows inadequate risk protection provided by MHI giving rise to borrowing, sale of assets and liquidation of savings by insured individuals. Yet, they relied less on usurious credit compared with uninsured individuals. This finding not only substantiates the importance of MHI in health-care financing but also highlights the need for affordable and comprehensive financing mechanisms to replace non-market institutions with formal insurance. 2016 The International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics 1018-5895/16.Item Illness Makes Credit Sick: Can Health Insurance Rescue the Poor from Exploitative Credit(Palgrave Macmillan Ltd. The empirical evidence on the effect of microhealth insurance (MHI) on the risk coping strategies of the households is scarce. This paper evaluates the impact of Sampoorna Suraksha Program, a nongovernmental organization-initiated MHI scheme and the risk coping strategies of households faced with medical illness in Karnataka state, India. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, we collected data from 416 insured households, 366 newly insured households and 364 uninsured households in randomly selected 10 taluks in three districts of Karnataka state, India. We hypothesized that insured individuals rely less on ex post risk coping strategies (borrowing, use of savings and sale of assets) compared with uninsured and newly insured individuals. Our hypothesis was tested using logistic and linear regression analysis. A significant difference among insured, uninsured and newly insured individuals was found for borrowing but not in the use of savings or sale of assets. A positive impact of MHI on illness-induced borrowing (both incidence and amount) was evident. The evidence from this study reinforces the role of MHI as a pivotal financing alternative to out-of-pocket expenditure in India. 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.Item Microhealth insurance and the risk coping strategies for the management of illness in Karnataka: a case study(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2015) Basri, B.; Kiran, K.B.Risk coping strategies adopted by the households in the event of illness depends on the accessibility to healthcare financing mechanisms including health insurance.
